I know that the rest of the Dead were in the studio for the recording of “Reflections”, that this tune is on, before this show I’d only heard various live JGB renditions. It’s nice to hear the fuller sound of the Dead with the background vocals of Donna and Bob. Aside from that, not much really stands out. If anything, the first set is more cohesive than the second set. The“Help>Slip>Franklin’s” is slow, meandering, doesn’t really go anywhere and the other stretched out tunes are kind of the same: the band tries to get something going but to no avail. Such is the nature of playing live music, night after night, like the Dead did. Some nights are great and others…. Oh well. On to the next show of the Summer 1976 tour!
